with
contributors:
Leigh
Stolle, Tim McLoughlin,
and Garrett Chaffin-Quiray
This
collection is a just dip into the amazing variety of writing that
has appeared on Jacquelin Cangro's popular web site thesubwaychronicles.com.
Coming from both well-known writers and exciting up & comers,
these stories and essays bring us a unique view of the world in
and around the subways, above ground and below.
Contributors include Jonathan Lethem, Francine Prose, Calvin Trillin
and Colson Whitehead, as well as the writers who will be featured
in tonight's celebration.
Even though we take a lot of things for granted as we ride the
subway these writers shine a fresh light on the mundane world that
we sometimes let slip below the surface of our conscious mind.
They also reveal how, even as people move in and out of the city,
the experiences they have had in the subways have left a powerful
impression on their memories and emotional life.
