Cast on, purl, bind off…don’t let this date “slip” by as Debbie Stoller demonstrates a thing or two from her books Stitch ’n Bitch: The Knitter’s Handbook and Stitch ’n Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker.

The woman who inspired, encouraged, and motivated millions of young, hip women and men to take knitting needles in hand, form crafting communities, and stitch (while they bitched) now shows the chic of crochet. Amazingly, there are three times as many crocheters are there are knitters worldwide and Stitch ’N Bitch Crochet The Happy Hooker is ready to ignite and induce the same passion for crochet that Debbie inspired for knitting.

*Attendees are invited to bring along their knitting projects to work on during the reading.

Debbie Stoller comes from a long line of Dutch needle-workers, but only perfected her skills in adulthood while touring for her first book The BUST Guide to the New Girl Order (Penguin Books, 1999). Stitch ’N Bitch: The Knitter’s Handbook (Workman, 2003) became an international bestseller, setting off a knitting movement around the world. Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation (Workman, 2004) was the result of the phenomenon spreading even further. Debbie Stoller received a Ph.D. from Yale University in the psychology of women and is the founder and editor-in-chief of the new-wave feminist magazine BUST.

WORD FOR WORD is a Bryant Park lunchtime series presented in cooperation with Coliseum Books. Notable authors discuss their newest books at the Bryant Park Reading Room, alongside 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Following the readings, the authors will sign books, for sale on site from Coliseum Books.

In case of rain, this event will be moved to the Coliseum Books Café.
