The
Blue Moon Boys (Scotty Moore, D. J. Fontana & Bill Black) were
the musicians that worked with Elvis Presley in the studios at
Sun Records and eventually went with him on the road. They forged
a unique Rockabilly sound that helped make Elvis a worldwide phenomenon.
Dan Griffin, and his co-author Ken Burke, have spent countless
hours interviewing and working with the members of the band. Their
book boasts never-before-told stories of life on the road with
a young Elvis, and an insider's view of how the band worked with
him onstage, in the studio, and in movies. It also features the
first comprehensive look at their post-Presley lives and careers
In the course of writing the book, Mr. Griffin, who is a film-maker
and music producer, filmed many of the interviews conducted. In
addition to interviews with the band-members and their families,
he recorded interviews with legendary rock stars influenced by
the band. These include George Harrison, Ringo Starr, John Fogerty
and Charlie Watts.
As a special treat at this event Mr. Griffin will screen a number
of these interviews, due to be woven into an upcoming documentary,
as well as rare archival photographs.
Dan
Griffin produced Scotty Moore and D. J. Fontana's Grammy-nominated
album All the King's Men and the film The Return of
the Blue Moon Boys. He has toured with the Rolling Stones and Elton John, produced
a PBS documentary on Sun Records, and directed the documentary 200 Cadillacs.
Ken Burke is a contributing editor for Blue Suede News, has written
for dozens of magazines, including Blues Access, Country Music
Live, Country Standard Time, and Goldmine, and is the author of
Country Music Changed My Life.
