Down and Dirty: Another Landlord's Tale

Join us for an afternoon discussion with 5 diverse mystery writers. This eclectic group has brought us a colorful cast of female sleuths including Tess Monaghan, Lauren Laurano and Long Island veterinarian Jessica Popper.

Sisters In Crime has over 3400 members in 48 chapters world-wide, offering networking, advice and support to mystery authors. The group is made up of authors, readers, publishers, agents, booksellers and librarians who are bound by their affection for the mystery genre and the support of women who write mysteries.

"To combat discrimination against women in the mystery field, educate publishers and the general public as to inequities in the treatment of female authors, raise the level of awareness of their contributions to the field, and promote the professional advancement of women who write mysteries."

Laura Lippman was a newspaper reporter for twenty years years, the last twelve at the Sun in Baltimore, Maryland, where she lives. She is the author of To the Power of Three, By a Spider’s Thread, Every Secret Thing, The Last Place, In a Strange City, In Big Trouble, Butchers Hill, Charm City, and Baltimore Blues. She is also the winner of The Edgar Award, Shamus Award, Agatha Award, Anthony Award Nero Wolfe Award, Baltimore Mayor’s Award for Literary Excellence, and the 2003 Maryland Author Award.

Carol Goodman is the author of The Lake of Dead Languages, The Seduction of Water, and The Drowning Tree. The Seduction of Water won the 2003 Hammett Prize and her other novels have been nominated for the Dublin/IMPAC Award and the Simon & Schuster Mary Higgins Clark Award. Her fiction has been translated into eight languages. She teaches writing at the New School University in New York City.

Cynthia Baxter is the author of "The Reigning Cats and Dogs" Mystery Series, published by Bantam Books. The series, which features Long Island veterinarian Jessica Popper, includes Dead Canaries Don’t Sing and Hare Today, Dead Tomorrow. She has also written over 40 books as Cynthia Blair. A Long Island resident, she currently serves as president of the New York/Tri-State Chapter of Sisters in Crime.

Sandra Scoppettone's previous Lauren Laurano mysteries are Everything You Have Is Mine (nominated for a Lambda Literary Award), I'll Be Leaving You Always, My Sweet Untraceable You, and Let's Face the Music and Die. She has published twelve other novels, many under the pseudonym Jack Early. Ms. Scoppettone lives on Long Island. .



Gammy L. Singer is an actress who has appeared on Broadway, in movies, and television. Released in March of 2006, her second novel, Down and Dirty: Another Landlord’s Tale has likeable landlord Amos Brown back in action. The first, A Landlord’s Tale, has recently been optioned for film and television by Laurence Fishburne’s film company, Gypsy Cinema Productions..


 

WORD FOR WORD is a Bryant Park lunchtime series presented in cooperation with Coliseum Books. Notable authors discuss their newest books at the Bryant Park Reading Room, alongside 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Following the readings, the authors will sign books, for sale on site from Coliseum Books.

In case of rain, this event will be moved to the Coliseum Books Café.
