Wicked:
The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

Reading • Talk • Booksigning

Gregory is hard at work on his new novel to be published this fall. Come hear an excerpt from his upcoming release and meet the creator of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Wicked

Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability, and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, a smart, prickly, and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil.

" ... [a] magical telling of the land of Oz before and up to the arrival of Dorothy and company.... A captivating, funny, and perceptive look at destiny, personal responsibility, and the not-always-clashing beliefs of faith and magic. Save a place on the shelf between Alice and The Hobbit that spot is well deserved."
— Kirkus Reviews

Gregory Maguire's first four novels—Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Lost, and Mirror Mirror—have all appeared on bestseller lists nationwide and have earned him high praise and a solid literary readership. Wicked is the basis of a Broadway play of the same name. Maguire received his doctorate at Tufts University and has served as an artist-in-residence at the Blue Mountain Center, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Hambidge Center. He lives with his family near Boston, Massachusetts.
